GREEN LOGISTICS: DLX Boosts Sustainability Efforts with SmartWay Certification and New XTMS Tool
The U.S. freight industry is on track for significant growth by 2030, with total freight tonnage reaching an estimated 20.6 billion tons – a 25.6 percent increase from 2019. The rising demand adds more pressure on supply chains, and ultimately, logistics teams managing escalated fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, route management challenges, and the need for safe, qualified carriers. This projection underlines a mounting environmental issue in transportation: greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Transportation is the top U.S. contributor of GHG emissions, accounting for 28 percent of total emissions, even without more semi-trucks on the road. Despite other eco-friendly options (i.e. freight trains), trucking remains the most efficient option for transporting goods, especially to remote and rural areas across the U.S.
So, it begs the question: How can shippers reduce costs while embracing sustainable practices?
Introducing the Carbon Emissions BI Dashboard
In August, Dynamic Logistix became a SmartWay Certified Logistics Partner, reinforcing our commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We immediately set out to develop our latest XTMS feature, the Carbon Emissions BI Dashboard. This user-friendly tool tracks transportation-related GHG emissions and is designed to meet the growing demand for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting.
The dashboard helps shippers:
- Track environmental impact
- Set goals for carbon footprint reduction
- Mitigate risks and manage inefficiencies
By capturing these metrics, logistic departments can identify areas for improvement, optimize resources, minimize waste, and lower costs in related areas.
What metrics can you track?
The Carbon Emissions Dashboard tracks and monitors critical metrics such as:
- Average CO2 per kg
- Average CH4e (methane equivalent) per kg
- Average Carbon Footprint per kg
- Average N2Oe (nitrous oxide equivalent) per kg
In addition to the carbon emission metrics, our XTMS program tracks and filters shipments by date, lane, carrier, mode, equipment type, and load status. These insights help improve fuel efficiency, cut costs, and reduce GHG through optimized routes, better driver behavior, and proactive vehicle maintenance.
